ABOVE THE DRONE is a not for profit (NFP) 501 (c)(3) Corporation which was designed by its founder Dr. Erin Alyssa Stokes to expose inner city teenagers to the enormous possibilities in the manned and unmanned aviation field, through mentoring, hands-on drone training and while encouraging inner city youth to consider aviation as a career field, or even as a hobby. In 2017, Dr. Stokes determined that insufficient exposure to aviation programs and education, combined with the inability to afford aviation-related activities, could be one the root causes to the scarcity of minorities in aviation. She genuinely believes inner city youth can be encouraged and provided opportunities to explore future opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) related to aviation careers. ABOVE THE DRONE will encourage young inner-city leaders to reach for the heavens and explore opportunities in life, beyond what they see in their neighborhoods by teaching participants about basic aviation education/fundamentals and assist them with obtaining their Part 107, Remote Pilot License.
